Santa Cruz climate | Why it is important to detail our cars

We truly are lucky to live in Santa Cruz. From its ocean views, to our enchanted seemingly untouched forests, and lack of severe season changes it is no wonder you hear people saying “… Another day in paradise…” almost every time you step outside. However no matter how lucky we consider ourselves, our cars face challenges every single day that put them through the ringer.

Our cars are exposed to various different elements that simply are non-existent in other geographic areas. Consider the harsh salty ocean air, the mighty red wood trees’s tannic acid droppings, or even the abrasive sand that gets picked up by the wind and blown into our cars paint every day! Our poor cars are no match, Right?! Well, thankfully, it isn’t that simple and our cars do have a fighting chance in this battle. That’s where the detailer comes in.

Cars have soft paint protected by a layer of clear coat. Over time the unique elements of Santa Cruz can damage that clear coat and cause it to develop swirls or stains. These are more than often removable to make a car look brand new again, but why not stop the problem before it even arises? Detailers have had tricks up their sleeve for over 100 years to to protect paint on vehicles. The most iconic form of paint protection, known as waxing, has been common practice since the 1920s! Needless to say, a lot has changed in the last 100 years and now we have higher quality wax, ceramic coatings, graphene, and many more products formulated to protect your paint.

Ceramic and Graphene coatings are the newest, flashiest products on the market as they offer hydrophobic and scratch resistant properties, and can last up to 10 years on the surface of a vehicle, if applied and maintained properly. Wax is still a very viable option when deciding what kind of paint protection to apply during your detail, especially in Santa Cruz’s climate.

Which paint protection is right for your car? Ask one of our mobile detailers when scheduling your next exterior detail and we would be happy to help find the best fit for you.
